Supervision
For Trauma Informed & Culturally Informed Counsellors
What supervision options are there? Individual Supervision goes for an hour, typically fortnightly or monthly. Group supervision has between 3-6 people. It goes for 2 hours. They are usually closed groups. The groups decide how regularly they want to meet. Groups are co-created spaces to learn, develop professionally, support and be supported - to ensure a sense of camaraderie, familiarity and relationality.
What is my supervision approach? Holistic and integrated. I want to get to know who you are as a person, your values and how they tie in with your professional aspirations. I take into account your professional environment, whether you are in an organisation, university, private practice or NGOs. I would also like to explore your personal barriers and limiting beliefs that play out in the professional sphere. I do all this with utmost humility, evidence-based research, and professional experience. I can also support you in trainings, upskilling and navigating through academic pathways.
What is my clinical specialisation? Grief, trauma/ complex trauma, multicultural/ transcultural issues. When we have adverse life experiences, we have to make meaning of them so we can learn how to help our clients make sense of what has happened to them. This can lead us to explore philosophy, spirituality, wisdom traditions, and religion. I'm also passionate about three key practice areas: Practitioner Reflexivity We want to make sure that whatever challenges you're facing, we actually capitalize on them - make your biggest challenges your greatest teachers. Get really intimate with the challenges so you can grow and shine from them Preventing Burnout Really assess where your greatest strengths are - the kind of work that energizes you, the kind of work that drains you, how to balance that, and everything that comes under the sun in terms of signs and symptoms and prevention of burnout. Advocacy Advocacy not only for your clients but also advocacy for the trade, for the profession.
What is my supervision philosophy? I want to recreate all the positive supervision, mentoring and coaching sessions I've had over decades of refining my skills. I want to support like-minded, heart-minded and strong-minded people to develop and flourish professionally. My goal is ensuring supervisees don't get the experiences that didn't let me grow - the ones that made me feel insecure, inferior or fearful of thinking or saying certain things. I don't want to create an environment where supervisees feel on edge or being assessed. I've seen wonderful mentors who balance support beautifully - giving you all the relationality you need to feel safe exploring your anxieties, while also being the sounding board that says "I'm really not sure that's a good idea" or "this is what I really recommend because it's aligned with your values and aspirations." What's important to me is giving everything positive I've learnt as a practitioner, with respect and humility, to honor the profession and make sure you feel safe to grow.
How do I know if we're a good fit? If you're still here listening/ reading, then I'm guessing there's some alignment in our professional ethos and values.
How can I work with you? I invite you to book in an individual session with me or a group session. There might be a new group starting out, so drop me a line below.
What can you expect? I look forward to supporting you in a collaborative way, in an authentic way that is backed with research, with a lot of lived experience and a lot of heart.
