A Bit About Me

Hello there, My name is Dr. Amirah Shah and I am a registered psychotherapist who specialises in trauma and grief. I am a holistic practitioner which means I take into account your cultural background, your belief system, your values, your intergenerational trauma history, your biology, your psychology, your personality, your quirks or neurodiversity, your relationships, your ambitions and your hopes for recovery. My academic background is in psychology and counselling. I have been in the mental health industry since 2009. As a practitioner and a lecturer, my experience spans over working with children and adults presenting with a range of diversity such as neurodiversity, disability, NDIS participants PTSD & CPTSD, end-of-life care and chronic illness, intercultural relationships, as well as grief and loss. I am also trained in providing psychedelic assisted therapy for treatment resistant anxiety and PTSD. I am a published author of a children's book on navigating grief titled, "The Truck Family" and "The Culturally Informed Workbook." I also host a podcast show on mental health called Science of the Soul in my free time.

Who is trauma therapy for? 

Trauma therapy provides a safe and supportive space for those affected by difficult and distressing events, such as childhood trauma, sudden loss, accidents, or abuse.

How does trauma effect someone?

Cortisol and adrenaline prepare you for danger with responses like freezing, flopping, fighting, fleeing, or fawning.

How can therapy help with trauma?

By understanding how trauma affects you and developing ways to heal, you experience less intrusive memories and thoughts, thus not affecting you as negatively anymore.
